Photographer’s Note
Today's post is about how close the domestic animals are to the people in east Turkey. Here, a Turkish turkey alife in a kitchen, and more photos at the bottom of this note. (And yes, I know that the children are not sharp here, whereas the turkey is better focused, everyone was a bit moving ; your advice is always welcome...)
Some photos could appear comic to us ; it is just normal there, whereas people there think that keeping a dog inside a house looks very strange and unhealthy... My intention is of course not to tell how archaic conditions are there, in fact this family seemed to live rather comfortably and with good standards of hygiene, but they prefered to keep this turkey locked inside the kitchen for a few days while the chicks were still so young, to protect them...
Here are other examples (and again, life in the yaylas (summer pasture at high altitude) is hard and not comfortable, but this is only for 2 or 3 months each year !) :
a cat and a chicken inside the corridor of the same house,
a veal inside a yayla with children that you have met before,
another veal in another house,
or a goose and her chicks inside yet another yayla...

Hi Cath.
You amaze me with these fine shots from the interiors..
Great shot, natural feel and the subject is well in frame.
Let's not think about technics here, just watch the soul of the shot and that's it..
Salutes, dear CATH..

Hi Cath,
This one is also very nice. Fortunately or unfortunately "this is the life" . İn that case even better compared to other possible companions in eastern Anatolian homes ; mother Turkey with chicks, instead cows !
Very good interior capture, with very nice compo and pov. Quite good sharpness as well.
TFS and have a nice weekend

Hello Catherine,
this photo is really one of the best documentary photos about the people in the East ! It shows us how important charity (no matter to animals or man) there is: that`s why for these people hospitality is one of the biggest worths - why else these families welcomed you to their house? :)
I mean, these people are poor - but they offer you (and the animals) what they have.
Really touching scene of life that I know from my childhood. I was like being the small boy at the right when I saw this scene...
Thank you for bringing back good memories, Catherine :)
Best regards
Ferhat

Cath,
I have found a treasure, and that is you! I have followed your links and notes here and enjoyed seeing what you saw and reading your notes. And notes are important, no doubt about it!. Imagine National Geographic without any text. You don't care too much if your pictures are not techically perfect and I like that attitude too. Of course it would be good if they were and you strive to improve but in my mind, it does not matter greatly.I am becoming fond of your Turkish "family" and beginning to think "mmm I have never been to Turkey..."
best wishes
Bev

c'est toujours interessant de voir dans quel environnement les gens vivent, ici on acceuillent les animaux a l'interieur pour les protéger des predateurs, c'est une belle histoire.

Precious photo - scene of daily inner-house life is a rare theme here. And of great value at the same time. The evidence of how people use to live at his private tells more of our world and times we are living now. Like it very much as well as WS.

J'aime bien celle-ci! Les rapports entre les animaux et les personnes sont intéressants et au delà de la nécessité de les élever pour des raisons alimentaires, il y a de vraies relations.

Hi Catherine,
Again a very good daily life shoot.Animals inside house is quite common in Indian villages. In many homes,Cows are considered sacred and will be worshiped.Probably you would have seen them during India tour.
This and other photos reminds me the similarities of the culture. It looks like, villages in anywhere part of the world would be similar with lot of love, affection, humanism attached to it.Only the city life seems to be boring, quite cruel with lot of conflicts.
Thanks

Why is that every time I see your 'in' production - something is choking my throat...
And yearning...
I'd like to be there...!!!
or...
Holding my breath...
Watching...
Those kids in there... The furniture...
The pots on the top of commode...!
O' almighty...
I'm going soft shiit...
I need a professional help...
