Photographer’s Note
Glad to be on Trek Earth - been looking at some great photos on here. Thought I'd start putting some of mine on. I live near the New Forest in Hampshire and joined a local camera club last year.
This photo was taken from Hythe shore line overlooking Southampton Water and Weston Shore. I used a graduated sunset filter and tweaked contrast in photo shop. I lightened the ship slightly. Any comments or critiques greatly appreciated. The QM2 followed her in after 10 minutes but by then the sun was too high in the sky. Many thanks for looking - Jeff

Hello, Jeff.
Firstly, welcome to TrekEarth! I look forward, as I think many others will, to seeing many more of your pictures on this and its affiliated sites. You have clearly gained a lot from your local camera club if this, your first posting, is anything to go by.
An excellent sky indeed - wonderful colours and exposure. My only criticism is that the ship still looks a bit dark - I might not immediately have guessed that that was what it was had I not read your interesting note. Otherwise, very good.
I like your note too - many don't write much at all: it is very interesting and useful to read notes about a particular place and/or about the photographic techniques involved.
Very Best Wishes,
John.

Hi, Jeff and welcome to TE! Judging by this first entry, you should do well. Aside from the great photo, you write useful notes.
I do agree with John that you could lighten the ship just a touch more - with a very light hand. Maybe bring out the entire foreground a bit so the ship doesn't stand out from it. That might also enhance the colors in the reflection. I'm out of WS credits for the day, and this is one where I think you need the original to get it right, anyway.
Lovely sky and composition. It does have a very English feel to it - a XIX century lanscape!

Hello Jeffrey
NIce POV, good sharpness, very nice colors.
Looking closer, it's very interesting to see all the little boats around QM2, this looks like a very "surrealistic highway".
Congratulations and welcom to TE!
