Moonrise Over Banff Photo

Photographer’s Note

When I first arrived in Banff that day, it was completely overcast with a small percentage of light from the north. Seeing it getting late, I drove north until I hit the Glacier Lake trail. The clouds began to break up and I climbed to the top of a hill to see this spectacular view.

The atmosphere of this one hardly is to surpass - it's simply great. One nearly doesn't dare to breath. It's somehow solemn ... a wonderful - a perfect - picture!

Excellent shot, the sky with these colored clouds is amazing !
Well the composition is also very good, the forest, the river and the snow on the mountains are very nice, it is simply beautiful !

I really like the contrast between the garish, playful sky and the lush forest below, Derrald. And you have the beautiful mountains to make the transition. Nice PP to bring out the best in all areas. Did you use a grad ND? Regards, Ken.

Wonderful light and great exposure on the land and sky. I would assume that you had a grad filter on to achieve this.

Excellent shot! I love the cloud formation and the colors here. The moon is a bit too small to call it a moonrise shot, but I known this comes from the wide angle lens.
