Photographer’s Note
On the Reisseck plateau there are two Muehldorfer lakes. Both dammed they are high under the sky, at 2319 and 2379 m respectively. An engineering wonder, Reisseck funicular comes from Kolbnitz station (719m) in the Drau valley up to the Schoberboden station (2236m). From there, a simple railway, the highest of its sort in Europe, brings people to mountain station at 2245m. This is just below the lakes and there are wide hiking opportunities. I take one of them, to Hochkedl (2558m) with great views all over Carinthia and wider.
