Spirits Bay is located at the northern end of the Aupouri Peninsula at the northern tip of New Zealand's North Island. A bit beyond the western end of the bay, in the middle of the photo, is Cape Reinga from which, according to Māori tradition the spirits of the dead leave for their journey back to Hawaiiki, the Maori's ancestral homeland. (hence the bay's name).

This picture was taken 5 minutes after the one of Maungapiko Hill, posted a few days ago.

The light clouds make me think of those departed spirits, hovering one last time above their earthly home, before their journey North...
