Photographer’s Note

I know, I know, "What's this all about?" Okay, she's a nice looking...... but besides that, it was the way she was dressed, stick thin, outside a trendy designer shop. The mannequin in the shop has that scary kind of look to it, just stood there, 24/7 staring away as life goes by. Well what I am trying to say is that we now are in this kind of unreal world, the must have now, latest fashion at any cost, must look good, ignore everybody else kind of world.
Well if I can get a comment or even sneak a point from someone who can see what I can see then it's worth it. Phew... Going to make a cup of tea now!
Oh, I titled it ! because I didn't want Baronjon as a title and have them come after me for copyright or something. ;)

Good street portrait that suits the black and white treatment. Looks as if it could be from some album cover in the 70's or 80's; good juxtaposition between the two 'models'. Like the sense of movement.

I'm not completely sure about the tilt on this one. I very frequently shoot tilted, and it's hard to achieve a good effect when the focal lenght is as long as in this image. Usually the point it to draw attention towards something by levelling the picture to it. Here most of the tilt looks to me as if trying to get the exclamation sign in the frame at the same time as you get the girl's boots. In general doesn't convince me, but I see it as a worthy attempt at creating something. To not sound too nasty, I do prefer the tilt in the theatre royale shot (finger on a man) and man with a suitcase (making vertical the runner).

I agree with Fred. I like the tilt and the slight motion blur on the girl's walk.
I would love to have a look to the colour version.

Nice work. The tilt works for me, the slight blur obviously provides movement. The B&W conversion is good, and nice sharp detail in the store behind. As for a statement on the shallow world of fashion? I don't know. Baron Jon, Yves Saint Lauren, Louis Vouton bag. You may just be right. And she maybe fit, but she doesn't look happy!

I see the tilt as adding a third dimension to an otherwise flat image which without the tilt definately loses something. (It also helps draw attention to the thumbnail I think). I like the picture. Caught at just the right time with enough blur to show the movement and still sharp enough to see the detail. Nice one.

your note sounds like you think this is no good, but I don't find it that bad... tilt and all.

I just remembered a while ago you commented somewhere on how difficult it is to get a good B&W. at the time I made a mental note to leave you a reference to the software that Luis Afonso uses - it's ConvertToBW Pro 3.0 from The Imaging Factory. It's a plugin for Photoshop.

Well, he usually gets it right with his B&W, and some of mine are done with his help. Basically, the ones that look good. :-)

There's a nice dynamism to the shot Mark, thanks to the tilt and the movement blur. You obviously shot from the hip, which is always a bit hit or miss - more miss than hit usually. As the ! was your title, it really needs to be fully in-frame rather than being slightly cropped, and I'd have liked to have seen more space below the girl's feet.
I like the movement blur in the girl's feet, but it would have been good if the rest of her was sharp.
