Sé Velha (The Old Cathedral) Coimbra - Portugal

This is the photo of Sé Velha's main façade, a few meters above University of Coimbra.
The main façade of the cathedral has two openings as you can see - the main portal and an upper window - which are similarly organised in concentric, round-shaped arches with columns. A decorated parapet over the main portal separates it from the window above. The portal columns (jambs) and some capitals have beautiful romanesque motifs.

The Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Portuguese: Sé Velha de Coimbra) is the most important Romanesque building in Portugal. Construction of the Sé Velha began some time after the Battle of Ourique (1139), when Count Afonso Henriques declared himself King of Portugal and chose Coimbra as capital. The first Count of Coimbra, the mozarab Sisnando Davides, is buried in the cathedral.
