Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken on Devil's Lake in Lincoln City. Actually the house is sitting on the town of Otis side of the lake but no really knows of Otis and Lincoln City is where people love to visit on the Oregon Coast. Not only do we have the beautiful Pacific Ocean and beautiful beaches but we have Devil's Lake that is a wonderful place to vacation with your family. At Devil's Lake you can witness Bald Eagles, Osprey, White Egrets, and Blue Heron(Just to name a few)mating and hunting on a daily basis.
I own a home on this lake and rent it out to vacationers when my family and I are not there vacationing. The lake is surrounded by very expensive homes...some of them over a million dollars and as grand as you can imagine....so when you come across this old rickety house it just kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. If you look closely you will see the house still has it's furnishings in it.
Last winter we had quite the wind storm and I surely thought that the trees that came down around the house would push the house to it's watery demise....but not so. Not one tree fell on the house and there were over a dozen that were over a hundred years old or so....
I posted this photo not just because I love this character of a house and I wonder what it's history is...but i also posted it for bakes888 Paul Baker because he posted a similar photo of a cannery in Ketchikan, Alaska. I recommend visiting Paul's gallery of wonderful photos. I learn from him every time I visit his gallery and I am never disappointed...Thank you Paul!
Take care,
Bettina Marie =0)

That’s a fantastic image. And the fact that the house has a view to the lake is making it even more special.

It may be broken but it certainly look very nice in this picture. Run down houses often make interesting subjects and you caught this one very well. The colours and the water below it add more charm to this once beautiful home. Nice work Bettina Marie :-)

Hi Bettina Marie. I’m a little taken aback by the kind words, thank you so much. I knew straight away from the thumb this must be the house you mentioned in your critique last time you visited. This house may be broken but from your note I think it must be blessed also. Great photo, good colour and detail. Thanks for sharing.
Take care, Paul.
PS Now you have really put me under pressure to produce the goods ;-).

Dear Bettina
I have a great interest for this picture and i saw the photo of Paul. Sure in the two photographies i found the action of the nature.
But, i can feel here, how you show in great colours what happen to abandonned things whith a touch of poetry.

Hi Bettina,
I love it! I'm always searching for grand old structures in disrepair but have yet to find one this grand. The colors are wonderfully spookey and details compelling. The silver waters of the lake contrast excellently with the red lady who I must say is aging gracefully.

Wow this house looks almost like it's ready to fall in on itself. I love the ripples of the lake in the foreground and the stark contrast in it. I learned to drive on Devil's Lake road when I lived in Lincoln City my sophomore year of High School. Fond memories are brought back with your photo, well done.
