Photographer’s Note

This was shot at National Day on the 21. of june in Tasiilaq, East Greenland. I watched this handsome man from the distance, as he was sitting quietly for him self eating, and noticed his distinct facial features. He is wearing the all white anorak as part of the traditional national clothing. The black "dots" are flies, also very typical in Greenland in the summertime, so I wouldn't erase them :-) The background ice floe is not perfect through his head, but it was not possible for me to mowe around in the crowd. Hope you like it anyway.

Hi Jens. Yes it's a pity the ice floe wasn't in the top right hand corner to provide better balance, but it's still a very effective shot with the f8 aperture at that distance providing a relatively narrow DOF, and I like the contrast of his dark skin tones against the blues and whites in the rest of the image. very expressive portrait, I do like this shot, particularly how his white clothes and bluish shadows on them mirror the white and blue background. very well seen. I agree that in the perfect world you would have the ice floe more to the right, but for me it's current position still does not spoil the photo.

this site is not crowded with Greenlandic faces, so this portrait is very refreshing. a really nice and sharp image, i like it a lot.

Hi Jens,

Very good portrait of the old man. I like the many details. The background don't disturb, it add more elements to the man and his ambient.

Missed your photos, this one I like best of all your new ones. So different is the face and the blue whiteness. He also looks very natural eating his lunch. A very strong face with plenty of character more than likely because he probably is a character.
