Photographer’s Note

The Glenelg Jetty is in the city of Holdfast Bay which itself seems to be a suburb of Adelaide. It’s hard for a visitor to know where one starts and another ends. The beach around the jetty and Jetty Road itself are very much alive throughout the day. In the early evening, as can be seen in this shot, the jetty still provides an attraction for families and couples taking a late afternoon or early evening stroll.

This shot was taken in early April, which is autumn, and still warm in Adelaide. It is a very comfortable place to take a stroll. I was sitting out just taking in the ambience after going out for dinner down the beach. I saw the sun starting to set and had time to set up and take this shot before we lost it. In fact, with a western exposure, and the sun setting on the sea here there is a lot of time for this kind of mood.

With respect to the light being out, that’s the way it was, and in keeping with TE TOS I left it out for this posting. I’ve turned in on in the workshop.

Workflow was as follow:
Shot taken in Raw - NEF files adjusted for exposure and shadow only (maximums)
Adjusted levels to white and black points
Adjusted curves
Added an overlay layer and dodged and burned with 10% opacity black and white brush
Added a layer for sharpening with USM
Modified sharpening with a layer mask (25% opacity black brush)
Saved as a tiff
For this post, resized, deleted the original USM layer and created a new one (with the layer mask), framed and saved as a jpeg for small post.
