The Bab Al Shams hotel and desert resort is located about 40 kms from Dubai, and presently sits alone amongst the desert sands. Its design is fairly unobtrusive, in that it is low height and of a Morrocan style, and is partially hidden by the surrounding sand dunes.
Once in a while I take a drive through there, in the late afternoon, so that I can enjoy a quiet drink and light meal with my family and friends.
On this occasion I watched these two young girls, finish a swim in the fantastic hotel pool and then stroll onto the nearby sand dunes for a short pony ride. I find it quite amazing that we can enjoy the luxury of 5 star hotals, and take advantage of the open spaces and tranquility of the desert at the same time.

Hello Grant
Good capture of an everyday life.
Beautiful colors and sharpness.. well-done!
Katia

Hello grant. I saw rarely such a picture of full glaring contrasts. Here the cultures hit really one on the other. I did not think at all that in this form is possible. Therefore I mean: the picture is a maximum performance. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hey Grant,

Nothing wrong with the sky in this one. Good composition and color. Sharp and detailed also. An interesting shot, especially in the dress of the Bedu and the two young girls in Bikini's. The differing dress really reminds me of the contrast between older Bedu ethics and modern western encroachment on those ethics. It gives a sense of acceptance on the part of both parties and makes a good photograph (and you thought is was a simple pony ride photo).

Great work.
John

This could also be called "A Tale of Two Cultures." It's an interesting juxtaposition. Two westerners in bikinis next to an Arab man in traditional Arab clothing. I like the crop. It makes for a nice clean composition.

Ryan

Hello Grant,
The two cultures are well seen here, good framing with a perfect position of the persons, well done!

Hi Grant, this is an interesting meeting of two different cultures, and "on a horse with no name?" Great composition of this one; the girl walking and the pony are both kicking up sand simultaneously, maybe helping to emphasize this obvious desert scene. Great presentation.

Thanks, John

Hi Grant,

Excellent note! I wonder if it will stay that way. They are building so much and I believe it is going to be either the place to be, to work and live with huge amounts of people or that it is going to be a bigger city (ghost town?)than it actually is. My friends and I were having that discussion a few months back while we were there. We told each other: maybe the three of us will be working in the Emirates within 5 years. What is your thought on the future of the Emirates? Gilbert

Interesting shot. I'm a bit concerned about the girls wearing bikinies in the desert, but I guess I would have to see where exactly the hotel is to be judgemental of their choice of atire for this ride. Well taken shot though.
