Photographer’s Note
This picture i made in traditional Lithuanian festival. "Uzgavenes" is the day of celebration for an end to Winter and a begining to Spring. People dress up in traditional costumes and eat pancakes. It is held on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (pelenu treciadienis) every year. This celebration of the farewell to the winter, comes on the seventh week before Easter.
The place i made that picture is Lithuanian museum which is in Rumsiskes. That place is an exposition in the open air. The core exhibits of this museum include dwelling houses, farmstead buildings and folk art monuments transferred from all ethnographic regions of Lithuania: Aukstaitija, Zemaitija, Suvalkija and Dzukija, and reassembled in this 175-ha area.
Some of the buildings were constructed 200 years ago and earlier. They acquaint visitors with the mode of life as well as housing construction and equipment techniques of people during various periods. 140 buildings are exposed as farmsteads and villages while town’s buildings are grouped around a square. The farmsteads show fences, draw-wells, gardens or parterres. The majority of interior expositions display restored household articles and furniture, cloths, kitchen utensils and tools typical to one or other period.
The Rumsiskes museum, founded in 1966, invites visitors to active expositions where weavers, wood carvers, potters and other craftsmen work. Also works of individual folk artists’ can be seen in the exhibition hall.
Being the last country in Europe to turn to Christianity, Lithuania holds many unusual festivals that combine Christian beliefs and indigenous customs of the country. The traditions become alive especially during the holidays and festivals in Rumsiskes. During those days actors play different characters, delicious food is served and many other festivities take place in the open air exposition.

Hi JJ.
A crowded, colourfull moment, caught brilliant in frame.
The festival mood is well established, and it's a smile to see the painted faces in the foreground.
Have a great day.

Hi Jurgita,
Well your English is infinitely better than my Lithuanian ..
There is something really interesting about the way the exaggerated face of the mask relates to the wave of more anonymous people behind .. I love the way the focus works ..
very nice .. I wish it was the full 800 pixels ..
take care,
John

Dear Jurgita,
Nice capture of the mood and an elaborative note. This is a composition where the crowd need to be focused I think.
Best wishes.
