San Juan Islands Photo

Photographer’s Note

Photo of the San Juan Islands taken from the ferry going from Anacortes to San Juan Island. The islands are only accessible by ferry, with many different ferries running to the various islands. This picture was taken around sunset, with a deep yellow color in the sky, but I liked the black and white version much better, as it emphasizes the patterns and amazing sky here.

I know it is a little dark on the right-I probably should have fixed that in PostProcessing but didn't, perhaps I will repost sometime.

Lovely shot of the San Juan Islands. I agree, the right is a bit dark, but otherwise, no complaints. Those clouds are fabulous. Great job.

Hi Matt,

Terrific B&W landscape shot. Beautifully composed, the horizon is well placed in the frame and the dramatic sky is excellent. Yeah, the right side is a little dark, but you can get away with this a little more in B&W than you can with colour. Personally I don't think it's is any way detrimental to this image. Infact, I think the lighting as a whole is great and there a good level of sharpness on the edges of the hills and the ripples on the water too. Lovely photo, well done.

Hi Matthew,

It's beautiful here the landscape, because -mainly- by the wonderful sky. These clouds as cottom, so well contrasted and with this menacing black tonality in the foreground and really marvellous! I agree with you about the darkness, however the B&W choice is useful, and because it the darknes not disturb at all! Thanks for this nice shot!

good choice this b&w. Ok, the right side is a bit too dark and blah blah..but who cares??
