Season Opening, Yippeeeeeeeee !!! Photo

Photographer’s Note

While parts of Europe have had an unusually high temperature period in the last weeks, other places on the continent get unusual amounts of rainfall, for example England. In the Alps it even snowed yesterday over 2000m and I saw in the evening on TV images of the snow storm on the Iseran Pass.

With all that some people are beginning to think about the white season again, let's look forward to a winter rich in snow and skiing fun, such as here in Val Cenis.

And Congratulations to Russia for organizing the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi... on the black sea ;-)

Hi Jean Yves, that image remember me that just some years ago every July and August normally i went 1 or 2 times to have a sky day at Tonale...but from 3 years it was closed for whole July and August for the too hot sun...
excellent view, with perfect quality, POV and colours.

Salut Jean-Yves,
a bit early, one snow storm is not really enough. I had myself snow in August 1971 in Austria above 1200 m. But your capture creates some taste of skiing for sure. The composition is well done with the skier in the right half and the slope line ending in the upper right corner. Also the light and texture of the snow ist great.

Hello Jean-Yves,

Je vois que la neige te manque déjà ! Encore une de tes images frigorifiques !
La position du skieur rend l'image très dynamique ! Tu as également bénéficié d'un temps splendide ! J'aime bien les petits éclats lumineux sur la neige qui resortent très bien dans ta photographie !

I am waiting for some sunshine since weeks...all we got is rain from England, day after day...it's not funny anymore. And now you bring us snow...pffffffffffff. I thought i was subtile with todays upload with some nice colours and a cloudy sky but this photo brings even more depression in my overal mood :-)
Anyway...it's white, great blue and some action....yes i found something positive about it ;-)

Trust you to post a ski photo in July! (I guess that would be normal in New Zealand, but in Europe?). Nice action shot with the skier coming into the frame and lots of the white stuff surrounding him. Nice work, even if it is July!

Hola Jean Yves.
You should add a decisive moment in the Categories because the best of your shot is the way you captured the man coming down the slope at a great speed, you got him in a very good sharpness. Good POV.

Avec le temps qu'il fait pour l'instant je me réjoui déjà du retour de l'hiver et de la neige (en quantité) ....
Une très belle prise de vue, avec un skieur pressé idéalement bien placé dans la compo.
La balance est nickel.
Ca me fait envie tout ça...

hehe....our suffering it's now over because yesterday and today the temperatures are getting lower:)) yepeeee..and tomorow will go to our meeting in the mountains..and will be even colderrr!!! but this image is so beautiful the snow is soooo perfect for skiiiing:D

Salut Jean-Yves,
Je n'ai pas eu le temps hier de passer faire un coucou alors me voici. Vue la position de ce type (tout sur l'arrière) et la trace rectiligne juste derrière lui certainement laissée par une de ses potes, j'ai juste envie de dire "encore un qui se prend pour un skieur". C'est vrai que l'on voit de plus en plus de gens qui foncent ainsi tout droit dans la poudreuse, souvent sans rien contrôler, et qui croient ainsi savoir skier...
Ah oui, la photo! Ben, le type est bien placé sur une ligne de force, la neige et bien blanche et toute scintillante et ce truc tout bleu en haut de l'image me rappelle vaguement quelque chose que j'ai vu il y a bien longtemps! Mais honnêtement, ça ne me fait pas trop envie pour le moment et je préfère m'accrocher à l'espoir que l'été va bientôt arriver.

Thats some good snow there. Love your capture here of the skiier in action. Perfect blue sky.
I'm definately going to miss skiing once I move out of Colorado in a few months. I should definately get out to the Alps one day to give it a try.
Unfortunately we're sizzling over here in the western US now.
