Photographer’s Note

Tokat is a small city located in Turkey. It is small but lovely. I miss being there from time to time. At least no traffic jam .
The city is neighbored by : Sivas in the South, a bit to the North Tokat, and finally Amasya, even further to the North. Between these two is the nice, but not overwhelming, Turhal. Travel further to the North and you will reach the Black Sea coast at Samsun.
It has no particular sights, the castle, the mosque, the old houses all can be seen in other cities too, but the way it all hangs together gives it some special charm. And the proximity to great, though small other cities to visit, like Turhal, Zile and Niksar adds to its charm. Even closer are the Ballica Caves, that are huge and well worth a visit. The town is busily restoring many of its monuments and although they first come out a bit too bright and shiny they will mellow and look quite right in a couple of years

On this photo , you see one of the streets , unfortunately this part of town has housing of the low income inhabitants.

Hello Emre,
thanks for the very useful and interesting infos aside. The shot was taken from a good pov and thanks to the street also the sense of depth is good. You did well to include in the compo some people, adding vitality and more interest to the shot. Maybe a bit of sharpness is missing here, but nothing serious. Well done! Tfs and best regards.

Bu Tokat ilinin ici mi yoksa köylerinden biri mi? Eger Tokat bu kadar geri kalmissa cok sasirtici gercekten... Fotograf ise cok güzel... Atmosfer de cok güzel yansimis kompozisyona... IsIk, eski duvarlarin ve yolun dokusu harika... Bakis noktasi ve perspektif de öyle...

Hi Emre,

this is a very interesting photo. It is quite different from your other works. The rather "grey" atmosphere (rainy sky) increases the rather "sad" atmosphere. The composition is very successful. Unfortunatly, it´s a bit unsharp - but the rest is well done, and the note is informative, too.

I really like the composition of this shot, the colors are good and the child in the middle make the place look lonely. The girl in bright clothing keeps it from looking dangerous though I think. Anyway all is good but it seems to me that it is not in crisp focus. I did a workshop and only added unsharp mask. Hope I didn't change it from what you intended.

A bit blurred but a very nicely composed photo and a good example of teaching others about those less well off. What is amazing is the pride these people have with their environment, nice and clean and no rubbish which is more than can be said about my country, more well off but rather dirty people who can't be bothered to put the rubbish in a bin.

Yalnız yorumları ve sizin verdiğiniz cevapları görünce bir Tokat'lı olarak biraz üzüldüm doğrusu. Burası her ilde olaan Tokat'ın eski mahallelerinden birisi. Şehir içi Türiye'nin bir çok ilinden daha iyi durumda.

Zaten biz fotoğrafçıların huyudur :)) şehrin en eski yerini bulup fotoğrafını çekeriz.

the perspective is great, the buildings interesting, personally I would have cropped the sky and the construction at the top and sharpened a bit more the image, otherwise it is a great view,

Çok değişik, ülkemize ait bir yokuluğun hüznünü içeren bir fotoğraf. Renkleri, taranmış eski bir analog fotoğraf izlenimi veren görünümü ile gerçekten çok hoş. Çocuğun varlığı fotoğrafınıza gerçekten çok şey katmış. Hiç bir şey yok ama yine de umut var...

Thanks Emre for sharing this simple but insightful photo. You captured the environment of the less fortunate economic class. The picture shows this typical environment with the unfinished homes, few random cables from modern life, and the detached background, probably including a highway....

The photo is great. It could be sharpenned or kept as is.

a good documentary short. the street has a great deal of character and the little boy figure brings soul to your composition. i like how you have placed the road in your frame. the whole scene lacks sharpness though.

Impresionante foto, muestras muy bien el ambiente pobreza y con el color oscuro das un buen toque, la presencia del niño transmite soledad, buen encuadre, aunque aprecio que le falta definición. Buen trabajo!
