Photographer’s Note
This photo was taken in Queens, NYC at an Asian New Year's Festival.
It represents a traditional Japanese masked dance. I found it very interesting because the dancer would fluctuate in between the roles of a grandmother watching her grandchild (without the mask on) and the grandchild (while the mask was on). She was superb, and I loved the contrasts of the yellow and red against the black back drop.
