Eiffel Close-Up

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Yes, another Eiffel Tower picture (this is my 5th) but to be fair, they have all been quite different. It’s a piece of architecture that’s easily interesting enough to be photographed again and again (which it certainly has been).
As you can see from this picture, taken from the second level of the Eiffel Tower, the metal is covered with hundreds of little lights. They were attached in 2003 by the Société Nouvelle d’exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, not to make the Tower look nice, but in order to impose a copyright on the image on the Tower at night. Some would say that this is a highly petty, selfish thing to do, but notes are supposed to be neutral so I won’t pass judgment. The copyright has proved highly controversial, and therefore the Court of Cassation recently ruled that it’s ok to publish pictures of the Tower at night if more of the city is included. This is a daytime picture, so it’s allowed… |

excellent POV...I appreciate the fact that you so bravely shot it so close. Personally, this is what I want in a landmark shot. I know what the eiffel tower looks like...and I have never been there...so a successful image should convey the details, the mood, how it feels to really be there.
Well done.
