Photographer’s Note
When I cut a bloom from our hydrangea, I was surprised to see a little jumping spider (Salticidae). This particular spider measured about 3/16" in length. I added a 4x close-up lens to my Minolta A1 and shot it in macro mode, zoomed in tightly. Edited in MS Picture It 7 to crop and sharpen.
Some things you might find interesting about jumping spiders:
* Their family, Salticidae, comes from the Latin word "saltus", meaning "to jump".
* They don't weave webs, but do spin shelters and egg sacs
* They have the keenest eyesight of all spiders
* They can walk backwards as well as forwards
* They can jump 20 times their body length
* They pounce on their prey rather than ensnare it in webs
* They are the spider which most bites people (they jump when startled and bite)

Hello Kimberley: Curious, Interesting and for my: strange, when I bring near me to some spider she always comes out running, I had not seen this before, I don't know, but the poses of the spider she reminds me to an octopus or a crab. Their details and their color is appreciated very well with the contrast of the petals of the flowers. Saludos Cordiales. *Ninfa Urania*

I like the detail you were able to capture here! The white petals really set off the brown of the spider too, I think. Very interesting facts.

Well Kimberley... A posting in the forum can help to make people curious about you! ;o)
Of course I saw your name a few time on forums, but having my long vacation (It was goooood!) in last week of May/June/July I couldn't find time anymore to check the new members. Even my "old" mates had to wait for a "virtual visit" AND... I'm kind of lazzy! :o)
Now I'm here visiting you for tea, but there is a big frightning spider in my cup!!!
Technically superbe macro - perfect focus - bright colours & crisp image.
A bit of a pity of your (too) obvious signature... Maybe a discrete one in a corner? Or in a fine white frame?
Amicalement - Viviane
