I quite hesitated on whether to post the original or the b&w... i'd like your opinion on that choice...

While we waited for the torrential tropical rain t o stop in Pô, i took this opportunity to photograph people who were there with us, seeking protection, namely here the brother of the owner of the shop where we had stopped to buy some fresh drinks.

Bonkour Eric,

Un portrait de profil comme je n’en ai jamais fait, formidablement réussi avec un choix d’ouverture pertinent qui focus sur l’essentiel. J’aime bien voir sa main légèrement floutée, de même que le rebord de son chapeau qui offre beaucoup de dimension à l’image.

Un cadrage bien serré, une photo intime où la lumière s’intègre avec douceur, juste assez pour détacher délicatement le profil du background.

Décidément tes photos présentées en N&B, sur le Burkina Faso, sont toutes MAGNIFIQUES - Ici l'élégance est dans ta photo mais surtout dans le personnage, et ce jusqu'au bout des doigts. j'aime beaucoup, beaucoup .

The original is good, too, but I definitely prefer b/w because of the mood it relates. This is a perfect portrait in every aspect. Congrats, Eric.

bien vu ça ! j'aime beaucoup ce cadrage de côté et la texture de la peau que tu as su faire ressortir. Je constate qu'il fait du beau travail le 18-200... cela explique pourquoi il est introuvable. Bravo pour la conversion n&b également

Le cadrage est parfait.
Ces cicatrices ou rides sur son visage sont incroyables.
Perso j'ai une préférence pour cette photo en noir et blanc.

j'aime beaucoup ce portrait au cadrage très intime, c'est comme si on pouvait lire ses pensés.
Je préfère la couleur, presque trop gris pour moi cette version.

Excellent POV!
I would say, before to see the original in colour, that I imagine it a lot different, in terms of colours, which makes me prefer a lot this B&W version, it really takes the essence and the best of the picture in colour, to make it even better and with greater visual impact, IMO.
So I like very much this wide composition made, the marks on the face, the light reflections on the skin, and the expression seen on his face.

Wow, Eric, this is really strong... that hand, the long strong and brightly lit fingernails, the texture of his skin... but most of all, his pondering... one really cannot escape trying to enter into his mind... his thoughts... perhaps saudade...
Wonderful. I am also totally lost as to colour or bw this time. The colour tones are soooo delicious too!

Salut Eric,
Perso j'ai une petite préférence pour la VO avec ces belles couleurs chaudes, mais je reconnais que le N&B est également très bon et s'intétègre mieux dans ta série du Burkina. Dans les deux cas le cadrage serré a permis un beau portrait avec beaucoup de détails une PDC juste ce qu'il faut. Bravo mon grand! ;o)

Hi Eric,

You have such a great series going there on Burkina Faso. Especially the black and whites are very strong and well choosen.
Love the depth of focus here and the polaroid feel you give to it by the way you frame it! Tough it would have been an amazing polaroid camera that produces such results...

la main a presque autant d'importance que le portrait lui-même, elle denote une certaine nonchalance, ce qui est remarquable aussi c'est la qualité de la lumiere qui fait apparaitre toutes les marques et rides sur la peau et évidemment l'angle de prise de vue peu orthodoxe.

Completement different de tes autres photos du Burkina Faso, ici, on ne te sent pas juste de passage, le close-up effectue un arret dans le temps, et comme tu as judicieusement pris ce portrait de 3/4 non-face, je veux dire le regard non saisi, fuyant, discret en fait comme le tien, ce sont dans ses pensees que tu nous invites. Tout de biais, en tangente, comme les grands blues! Bravo, Eric!

un grandissimo ritratto, con il dettaglio della mano, una luce stupenda...grande POV originale,.....insomma tutto è TOP in questo ritratto..
mi piace da morire il viso dell' unomo racchiuso tra il cappello e la giacca in due linee orizzontali che lo incorniciano...

It's your today's post that brought me to your gallery and go back a little bit in time...
And what I found...?
A quite exquisite portrait work to the full delightfulness of my visual preceptors !!!
Not often we have the luck to see such angle of a human face and still be able to 'read' that face…
The hand…! It's his hand that helped a lot to bring that aura of alive human being to us…
For, it's not a dead face (like in hundreds of pictures posted on TE!), but a fully awake face of a man…
Great finishing, flawless presentation…

Merde alors....j'avais complètement loup ta série sur le Burkina.
Comment t'as trouvé ??
Superbe ce portrait, le cadrage serré, le profil (on en voit pas assez...tout le temps des vues de face....bien joué), une lumière gérée au poil, des détails, un superbe n/b avec ces ongles, ce nez et ce chapeau qui ressortent.

Elle est magnifique celle ci, il me semble de mémoire qu'elle figurait sur une double page de ton livre, en tout cas bravo pour ton bouquin, c'est vraiment réussi et je pense que c'est le meilleur moyen de conserver a vie et de faire partager ses clichés, encore mieux qu'un album photo.
La version couleur me plait bien également, je comprends ton embarras :)

very expressive face (and hand). that, and the scars make me really curious about this man's person and life...i had a look at the original, and as fond as i am of b&w, i actually prefer the original. there is something authentic about the original colors, and the brown and blue are beautiful together.

Hi Eric,
This is a stunning B&W image! I love the look of contemplation and for me the hand makes this photo perfect, so elegant. Excellent composition. B&W is the better choice as I think it creates great atmosphere.
