Photographer’s Note

Dawn on the harbour of Vancouver. This was one of the most spectacular sunrises I've ever seen, with the clouds at just the perfect angle to create these intense colours. The lines of light in the sky and masts of the boats seem to create an ensemble that reminded me of a symphony orchestra, with a lot of different pieces coming together to create something beautiful. Before anyone asks whether the colours are real, yes, they sure are, although the long exposure lead to the brighter areas near the horizon burning in a little. Since this was taken in December it was a lot easier to get up for the sunrise than it is at this time of year!

That greenish light in the center makes it look a lot more balanced than if the whole picture was just blue-red.

I really like the light caught here, the incredible tones on the sky, with the mix of masts and buildings at the back.
The inclusion of the rocks and shore on the first plane enhances even more the composition made.

My gosh, Alvin! What an extraordinary shot! I have never seen anything like it. The colors, the lights, those great masts!! I love the way there are so many patterns. The ships, the clouds. This is just awesome. Kind regards

We often see a lot of sunsets here in TE,but this is a especial sunrise, a sunrise Symphony

Ha, yes it’s a lot easier to wake for sunrises in the winter. I was just contemplating what time I would have to get up tomorrow if I wanted to attempt a sunrise, and I think I'll just sleep in.

This was quite a spectacular sunrise and worth waking for no matter what time of year. The pink and the purple look so good together, and I love seeing the lights on in the buildings. The mix of natural and artificial light makes this a very interesting photo.

Hi Alvin, absolutely awesome colour in this one. The weather was perfect for you, providing excellent colour in the sky and water and nice still water for these reflections. The composition with the rock ringed bay of boats, you even got the city lights. Your timing was perfect. Very good choice in title. Excellent!

Wooow....fanatsic colours and clarity. I like the "texture" of the clouds, the sharpness and detail in the buildings and boats. The refelctions and colours in the water really "make" this photo. A great result....well done.

Hi Alvin,

It's most usual to capture the lights of the sunset, but when we can see, thanks to you wake up, the sunrise's lights is too amazing. There are incredible the lights of the world, the game of the colors. And the composition playing with the boats and theire reflections is very dynamic and beautiful! Thanks.

Well Alvin, that sky is truly amazing. A feast for the eyes. The palette of colours here is wonderful and the tall masks plus the tall building build a composition. Always nice to get a mirrored image for such a sky. Fantastic shot, well done.

A purple beauty, Alvin. As in many other shots from this area, you are making a good compositional use of the foreground shoreline to balance the overall framing. Technically well made, and a soothing quality given by the tranquil reflections. Nice shot.

Well composed with the curve of the shore and these perfect reflections.The colors look artificial ,but I know ,some days a year they are like this,fantastic.Moments like this are a reason why I never go out without my camera.

Since it is necessary that I says to you that it is a very beautiful photo, a dawn worth being photographed, with a few wonderful colors with a few violet and blue tones that they give a great effect to the image. Hello Al -

What I really like in this image besides the sky is the repeating lines in the harbor and then the repeating lines in the clouds. the soft pastel colors are just beautiful and add drama to the image. The long exposure softening the ripples of the harbor and turning it to ice also adds to the quality of the image. All of the technical details are spot on. Well Done!

Alvin, this is certainl a magnificant shot, absolutely beautiful. The exposure has allowed that it is still quite dark yet hides none of the detail. The sharpness of the whole frame is also quite apparent. Well seen and captured.

Although the colors a bit over-saturated (IMHO, due in part to the increase in contrast?); it's still a stunning shot...

The composition is spot on, I love the silhouetted rocks/ land in the forground, and the color is appealing.

Wouldn't surprise me if this one ended up lining the walls of yet another shop... haha

Now I see what you exactly mean when you say TE is encouraging you to take new photos. Probably you have taken this photo in the night mode of your camera ; that has enabled it to take the light itself required enough. The outcome is fantastic.
