"Montjoie ! Saint Denis ! Je trépas si je faiblis !"

The quote is from the hilarious french movie "Les Visiteurs", starring Jean Réno and Christian Clavier. I found it quite appropriate to present Monschau (French: Montjoie), the last stop of our Benelux tour, situated a few kms off the Belgian border in German Land Nordrhein-Westfalen. This stitch of 6 vertical photos marks my first steps in Nordrhein-Westfalen.

The place was first mentionned in 1198 and the castle you see was first built in the XIII th century, then expanded in several phases. No record exists about who built the ugly modern buildings on the left ;-)

In modern times Monschau is one of these many attractive small German towns with beautifully preserved houses and a medieval flair. So it is easily understandable that it attracts masses of visitors and while here we got an unique opportunity to enrich our Dutch thanks to numerous noisy NL-Seniors touring the place. Hi Jean Yves, beautiful view, with high quality and a perfect light. we can count the windows of any building also on the small version; excellent POV and exposure.

Hi Jean Yves,
I remember very well this little resting place on the raod above Monschau. It is such a beautiful view, but for one coming there first time, it is rather surpising how crowded this little village is.
Thanks to six stiched photos the place appears bigger than it really is, and looks so well-nested among these green hills.

A lovely, crisp, bright record of this interesting town scape, Jean Ives. It is well worth clicking for the larger version, to enjoy the detail. I love all those beautiful, cool greys and the town forms a natural 'V' shaped composition, which presents this mass of detail in a very orderly way > Regards kevin

bonjour, Jean Yves, après les moustiques la drache belge et la gouille au lumière insidieuse, c’est une super belle vue qui nous fait plonger au cœur de cette charmante ville (je comprends qu’après le blizzard, que dis-je le smog qui à envahis Clermont et ses alentours il te fallait un panorama comme celui-ci ou les cieux sont plus serein ) ton opportunisme à trouvé le point de vue idéale est déconcertant, car pour ce genre d‘endroit, topographie des lieux oblige, il semble que ce village soit situé dans un trou (pas comme la gouille mais presque) bien encaissé,
la vue plongeante sur cette architecture soignée comme le château et de ses maisons donne beaucoup de profondeur à l'image avec la ville qui occupe bien l'espace de l'image ponctué de verdure, bien amicalement

Mais qu'est ce que c'est que ce pims !!!
Un très bon panorama dont les alignements de maison à colombages formes de très beau centres d'interet ! Elles donnent en plus un rythme agréable dans cette belle photographie ! je vois que vous avez eu de la chance avec le temps durant ce meeting ! C'est tout bénéfice pour nous; observateurs de vos oeuvres !

Oh man, this is Senior place. I have been here once and i felt like walking in an elderly home ;-)
The view from here i have never seen before, and the stitch looks very good. There is a nice wave in the scenery which i really like....good composed.

Hi Jean-Yves,
Looks like the best kept secret of Germany! Except that there seems to be quite a few uploads from this town.
Architecture seems to be some kind of mix between German and French/Belgian traditions.
Even with this wide angle I'd like to see a bit more of the garden at lower left.

Very good quality JY with excellent detail and sharpness. Vertical shots seem like the best way to go for stitching panos. Lots of interest to see in the large version.

This is a very nice POV and good stitching to create a super wide view on Monschau. It gives a good view over the village where the castle still rules.
In the WS a little view on you when you realised you would be captured inside the sensor.

Dear Jean,
So much detailing with so much resolution! Even the the leaves of the bushes can be separated. The perspective with your cropping provides an effect of "Cinemascope"

Bonjour Pixou,
Supezrbe vue de Montjoie bien prise en altitude, on y voit ses jolies maisons à colombages et moins amusant, quoique esthétiques, les nouvelles constructions qui semblent enfin achevées.
La dernière fois que j'y suis passé, c'était un chantier.

Chouette pano depuis le Dkeus POV! Je dois avoir le même mais je n'ai pas encore eu le temps de m'attaaquer aux assemblages. J'aime beaucoup le "S" formé par le chemin en bas de l'image et les paneaux en bois qui montrent le chemin et ajoutent une petite tache de couleur. Encore un week-end qui restera longtemps dans nos mémoires.

J'aime bien cette photo si bien realisée. La curve inferieure des arbres est un bon naturel pour cette belle ville. Grand détails que nous pouvons vraiment jouir dans la grande version! Merci.

Pas mal la version large, dommage que le POV n'était pas plus vers la droite pour voir l'atre partie du village, faudra que je revois ma copie pour une autre fois...

Bonjour, Jean-Yves. Une belle vue panoramique de Montjoie qui permet de voir les différents styles architecturaux dont s'enorgueillit la petite ville frontalière. comme tu le remarques, tout n'est pas du meilleur goût, mais la partie droite de l'image présente un ensemble assez homogène. Une belle réalisation du pint de vue technique et une belle lumière (même si es nuages semblaient encore bien présents).

JY, a great stitched panoramic work. Amazing to see the german precision in blending the new and old architecture giving the impression of a perfect harmony between ancient and modern times. Nice that you got the time and patience to do such perfect work during a busy a populous meeting.

Un beau panorama chez les cousins Germains; un point de vue dominant sur la ville bien choisi.
Peut-être une avancée sur le perron aurait donné plus de vision sur les maisons, je chipote peut-être, mais l'ensemble est parfait.
