Summit Camp View Photo

Photographer’s Note

This was shot from the summit camp (around 19000ft/5793m) of Koteswar peak. Located in Gangotri region of Garhwal Himalayas, this beautiful place is on above the left wall of Gomukh and Gangotri Glacier which is the source of majestic river Ganga. The part of the glacier is visible just in the middle of the photograph, which is much below from the place of shot and covered by boulders & pebbles. The name of majestic snow covered peak on the other side is Shivling. The tiny piece of green land just beneath the Shivling is called 'Tapovan'. That holy place for Hindus is covered by flowers until the winter sets in.
Route : Hardwar->Uttarkashi->Gangotri->Trek to Gomukh->Climb left wall to reach Raktavaran glacier->Further trek to reach Koteswar summit camp.
Time to visit : Before the winter sets in.
Note : Good to have rope and few climbing gear

Hi Arijit,
Not everyone can enter the inner sanctum of the Himalayas so a big Thanks for sharing this wonderful image. Excellent sharpness and clarity for a scanned image. The blackish mark probably from the lens hood could have been cloned out. Its still a good effort nonetheless. And a very informative note too.
