The Basilicata is a small region, often forgotten, sure to discover. Anciently “Lucania” was called, a lot probably from the Latin "lucus" that is "earth of forests". It’s a earth of mountains, bare fields, deep canyon and silences but also of art, ancient traditions, history.

The natural coves, numerous in the territory of Matera, have been the first dwellings for the men, than they passively did not endure the shapes of the nature but they appropriated of it, determining in the cove courses and architectures. These cliffs have been most famous film theatre the numerous of which are surely "The Passion" of Mel Gibson and "The Nativity" with the direction of Chatrine Hardwicke.
In imaginary of the international cinematography the scene of the coves of Matera it has inspired films in order to faithfully recreate the Jerusalem or the Bethlehem for excellence, with foreshortenings and landscapes that very well to represent naturally the places nearly where Jesus Christ born and lived. It had understood already Pasolini in 1964 with "the Gospel according to St. Matthew".
In last the 60 years thirty productions, and I would want to cite also "King David" of Bruce Beresford and with Richard Gere, centralized on the history of David, indicated like the King of Israel.
An interest that has gone beyond, as well as to animate a mainstream on the Antichrist like demonstrates the choice of Matera for some scenes of two productions in stripes and stars, 1 instalment of the fiction of the Nbc "Revelations (2005)" of Lili Zanuc and Lesli Linka, and "The Omen 666", remake de "the Omen" of Richar Donner in years ' 70, for which the Sassi and the murgian plateau is returns to represent the Jerusalem.
The long echo of the cinematographic productions has had reflected also on the tourism! Not the big waves of americans tourists who in many attended, but a slow one and constantly increase flow of visitors that have known the city just to the cinema.
I hope you like it
