Red road to Emerald Photo

Photographer’s Note

The Central Queensland highlands are sparcely populated. Even the highways have little traffic, but I still like to get off the beaten track. When heading to the town of Emerald, I turned onto this alternate route and was struck by the rich red colour of the gravel.

This road goes past the huge dam which supplies Emerald and surrounding district with water. The town is the centre of a large farming and grazing area and at the moment it is prospering from the coal mining boom.

A little further west, saphires are mined. They are quite easy to find but most aren't big enough to cut.

Bonjour Nicolas,
Magnifique route de terre rouge qui se poursuit jusqu'à je ne sais où, jusqu'à la mine je crois. Bonne composition et belles couleurs. Je me suis demandé si on devrait pas enlevé la partie de l'auto, mais je ne suis pas sure, la photo est belle comme çà.

Hi Nichola. Very good aspect to see such a flat part of Australia. I know this area for huge coal mining business but haven't been there yet. Your foreground is interesting and the colourful earth is good and bright. Murray.

Great picture, I love its colors, the red road - something beautiful!
I think that you might have to try to crop the picture in the way where there no car hood in the right bottom. But still, it's the great one!
