Photographer’s Note
2003's Hurricane Isabel was one of the notable Cape Verde-type hurricanes which reached Category 5 strength. Made a landfall near Drum Inlet, North Carolina as a category 2 hurricane. Total damages were estimated at $3.37 billion. The name Isabel was retired after the 2003 season, and will be replaced by Ida in the 2009 season.
Here the edge of the storm is captured from deck of an oil tanker.

Hi Scott,
You really caught the moment here. An awesome view of a huge weather system. It must have been a little scary to encouter this on open sea...
Thanks,
Christian

Hello Scott,
It was only last night that i was watching a TV program about Hurricane, and what damage they inflict on people and the devastation the do, then when i put my laptop on this morning, i though i might travel around the world vie TE, and one of the photo i open up is your, and what a shot this is a amazing shot you certainly have captured the moment here, and i can quite understand why it is not as good as quality as all of your other photo, but in my eyes i think it is a fantastic shot under the circumstances you shot it in, it just amazing in my eyes well done Scott, but weren't you scared Scott because i would have been petrified, ten out of ten in my books Scott, and well done.
Regards Irene

In all my life, I have never witnessed such a scene let alone captured one. Perhaps such things never show up in this part of the globe. Thank you very much for sharing it with us.

Bonjour Scott,
it's totally crazy!! I can't believe you stood in the face of the monster like that. Wasn't it windy? wasn't it dangerous? I don't know, here we rarely get windy that go over 90km/h (56 miles/h)...It looks so powerful.
Too bad the quality is not that good...I tried to remove some noise...i don't like doing this kind of things because it makes the pic too soft, but here I thought it would work ok...
Have a nice day,
Marc
