Mysterious Morning Mist Photo

Photographer’s Note

Before leaving my cottage, it has always been a ritual of mine to go have a last peak of the lake, as a final "goodbye" to my favorite place on this earth. Waking up early in the morning to get an early start on a wilderness canoe trip last weekend I found the lake hidden behind thick mysterious morning mist.

Hi Carolyne!
This is a great image. I love the way the dock is just sort of jutting out to what seems like the middle of nowhere. I also like the graininess of the image and the B/W works very well here. Nice simple shot. Very well-presented.

Hi Carolyne,

I like misty mornings, but the picture doesn't really show that. To get that feeling of a misty morning, you need to see things disappear in the mist. It should be obvious. Like the lake-side, or a boat being swallowed by mist, or a little bit of hillside, or a tree barely visible.
On your picture that isn't really visible. There isn't anything in it that can be a reference to us on the thickness of the mist... The dock is very well visible. In that sense, it doesn't really give that atmosphere you wanted to capture...
Try to add something to it next time, to show is that there really is a lot of mist!

This shot brings back memories of cold winter mornings at Sproat Lake on Vancouver Island, BC.

I like the composition and your choice of B&W. I do have some suggestions which I have demonstarted in the workshop I did for you...
