Libraries are one of the few institutions that gives me hope for the future of humanity. To me they are a symbol of man working together to pool our collective knowledge, accessible to all, an open door to learning. Universities are wonderful, too, but are reserved for the elite and the priviledged.

The architects of the Vancouver Public Library perhaps were thinking of a library as a long established symbol of civilization when they designed the outside to look like the Roman Coliseum. The inside, depicted here, is an expansive gallery that speaks to me of the greatness of man's potential... so much space artfully enclosed for the good of the people.

hi andrew,
perfect angle - gives a wonderful perspective; in the thumbnail it almost looks like shaped of gold - in large size it looks like a well lit space seen with the eyes of a thoughtful and skilled photographer!
very well done - congrats for this visually appealing composition topped up by a meaningful note!
thanks,
dora

It does look like the colisuem. It looks fantastic. I feel like there is no boundary to what we can achieve (like you said). I'd love to go see it some time. It looks a bit like the British Museum, another house of knowledge. I love libraries and after this post I think I love libraries all the more. To read and enjoy a view like this.

Great shot, the colors are magnificent and the details are uncharacteristically clear for this kind of a picture.

Hi Andrew,
I really like this shot of the library. Tremendous composition, lighting, and POV. I saw this unique building the last time I was in Vancouver and you definitely did it justice. Well done. TFS

One word Andew... AWESOME!

This on'e going into my fav's! The public Library is an incredibly photogenic building, it's no wonder it was used in Schwarzeneggers "The 6th Day".
Excellent POV. Well exposed, God sharpness... not a single flaw to speak of Andrew (other then it was taken with a Nikon ;-) Hahaha.

All the best Andrew!

Hi Andrew,

I too love the Vancouver library, and agree that although it holds the stories of our past, it stands as a place of opportunity. Within our past are the tools to create wonderful, beautiful futures.

An excellent photo.

All the best,
Jenner

Hello Andrew,

A library evocative of the Roman Coliseum, that is a fabulous idea. As the information age progresses, do you think the appeal of books as hardcopy literature will survive into the future? I can only hope it will, but I would love to hear your views. Your photo is superb, the product of great camera, used wisely!

Warm regards,

Bulent
