Photographer’s Note
Rotterdam was the European capital of Modern Architecture since 20'-30' of the 20th century. After beeing almost completely destroyed during the 2nd World War, Rotterdam became a new young and original city where the architecture plays a main role.
One of the most impressive buildings are the Cube Houses, in the area of Blaak, constructed by the Architect Pier Blom. These apartments where constructed between 1982 and 1984.
Blom thought about this complex as a forest: a cubical house makes us think about a cabin on the top of a tree. Blom's idea was to create a town inside the city.
Each apartment is either a house or a commerce, and one of them has been turned into a museum.
This little "town" is actually a pedestrian bridge (shown in the down side of the photo).
Currently, Rotterdam is a city where old and new architecture is mixed with total naturality. You can pass from a the 21st Century to the Early Modern Ages within a couple of blocks.
The photo has been resized. Hope you like it us much as I do!
