Many of my friends at trek know that I love to post photos that come to me at a moments notice. I was planning on continuing the series from Mt Woodside but thought I would post this photo of these two horses playing in the morning sunlight. With only a moment to click the shutter this capture is one of those photos where I was at the right place at the right time with the right lens and yes I will say the right camera...enjoy!

Hi Paul, Two stunning animals captured perfectly & beautifully in play, the DOF is excellent & although the faces are a little dark, I think it suits the shot, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Indeed- right place at the right time! The pastel colors are quite appealing with the overall brightness almost throwing the horses into silhouette. I 'personally' would have gone for a a slightly tighter crop with the horses slightly off centre, but overall it's a good shot Paul.
All the best!

Hi Paul! Great shot! Love the dark crispness of the horses in contrast to the muted (foggy) sunlit backdrop. Good catch!
euryan (8440) 2007-05-15 22:03
I would certainly categorize this photo as a decisive moment. I love the way these two "black stallions" contrast with the soft colored background. The moment of capture is perfect. Beautiful shot.

Hi Paul. Yes that is some perfect timing. I'm assuming you went machine gun mode and picked the best. The atmosphere gives this one a surreal feeling that I like a lot. I think I prefer no houses back there but what can you do about that. Superb shot Paul!

Un très instantané ! La zone de netteté est juste là où il faut et le fond est fort agréable. Bravo.

Absolutely spectacular capture of a fleeting moment! The essence of good teaching is to keep students slightly off balance, to mix, but connect. (In teaching quantum mechanics and nuclear physics, I soften the blow of the cold mathematics with the human side of creating great science.) I know I personally am all over the place in my gallery. Amidst nature's wonderland shots you submit from the Pacific Northwest, it is wonderful to see the two horses, galavanting.
Cormac (26565) 2007-05-16 10:41
Wonderful image Paul! The shape of the horses shows very well, because they are dark against such a light background, so they are almost silhoettes. The pose of the horses is just right - how did you get them to do that? This is a real beauty!
Kirych (2707) 2007-05-16 10:47
Amazing tender shot! Wonderful contrast composition!

This is one of those rare moments in time when everything comes together perfectly - wow, what a great shot of these two horses. I love how you captured the horses in perfect clarity but left everything else with a feel of obscurity. Great work and thanks for sharing. By the way, we are still traveling in the US but I posted my first image from our trip today - and there will be many more. Check out my gallery if you're interested. Gerald

Wow, I love this shot! You were indeed at the right place at the right moment. I love the clarity of the horses that stands out against the blurrier background. The details are fantastic and I love this composition! Excellent work, Paul!
PS: I am still busy with my studies, so not too much time for TE. But I'll pop in now and then!

you've captured this charming scene perfectly with both horses on the rise, the light is wonderful and you have a perfect dof. A superb, instant capture, well done.
Polonaise (5802) 2007-05-27 13:18
Skillfully caught by one of the masters of this kind of photography. Something one may expect from you, Paul.
Nothing but the breath taking stuff.
The way the picture is displaying its theme in front of our eyes…The misty background, the very strong foreground…Killer !!
Best Sunday possible, dear Paul.
PS: There is an issue, though…
The over sharpening syndrome…
Something we don't expect from the craftsmen like you, Paul.
But…It is there, showing its ugly face.
Not big deal, but… (:-)))
jjbach (9324) 2007-05-28 9:48
What a lovely shot is this one. Wonderful moment you caught, bravo. Splendid work, one of my favorites.
PixelTerror (0) 2007-05-29 2:29
Well we can feel glad you stopped here for a while, ok your landscapes are nice but this one is quite a change and looks really nice, there's good light, plenty of lens sharpness and good action going on, I like it !
Have a nice day,
fayeulle (27827) 2007-06-14 1:50
It's really a nice shot! I like the soft bokeh of the background and the sharpness of the horses in a good scenery.
capthaddock (28790) 2007-06-15 16:26
Hi Paul - the subjects may be centred but who cares, as the timing is perfect, just the right pose, when the mouths are almost touching, excellent work.
banyanman (7789) 2007-07-01 8:17
Excellent capture, Paul, and very good timing. The DOF is good, and the backlighting gives this a lovely feel (you seem to like the challenges of backlighting). There is however a halo around the horses (not sure whether that is due to the backlighting or over-sharpening) and I would have been tempted to crop a little from the top and bottom, and from the right, to position the horses more off-center in a 6x4 format. Cheers . . . David

Paul, cette photo est une merveille avec la lumière, la brume et ces deux chevaux qui dansent dans le matin. Belle réalisation.

Many thanks Paul
I see a touching rehearsal, on backlit-machine-fogged dirth stage, of energic tango dancers setting the minute details of a performance before the main spotlights are switched on!
