Photographer’s Note
More from the dirt jumps.
The brakes still have a use, even in midair. By slowing the front tire speed, the back of the bike will drop, and the back tire brings the front down. Bike positioning is, of course, crucial to a soft landing. You want the back tire to hit just a hair before the front, at the right speed, angle, and position on the transition to the flat.
I think the sport is largely about trusting that you won't make a mistake in the crucial moments, or pain will surely follow.

Hi Andrew;
hmmm- not sure why this one hasn't received more attention mate. Sharp detail as you really froze the action well- not even a blur in the wheels... From the sounds of your note mate- you used to be a rider yourself?
2 suggestions for this shot Andrew; tighter cropping with about a thumbs width off the right hand side (placing the subject in a key rule of thirds intersection) and secondly a touch of the shadow/ highlight tool- only to brighten the shadows slightly (same effect as using a fill flash).
Just my opinion in making an already excellent shot just a touch better.
Cheers!
- Dan
P.S.- I'll be in contact closer to my August trip as it would be nice to arrange another TrekEarth meet.
