[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Pesta Lepa Lepa or Lepa Lepa Festival is an annual maritime event in Semporna, conducted in the 3rd weekend in April. If you want to see this 3 days event, you need to book your accommodation at least a month prior to coming. If not you probably need to pitch your tent somewhere.

The main event is on Sunday. It usually starts with the usual sea types of games like dugout race, catch the duck thing and previously wet pillow bashing etc...
And then the grand finale...a long procession of over a hundred lepa-lepa the like of which you see in the photo.

A lepa-lepa is floating home to the Sea Bajau, a nomadic seaborne tribe found along the eastern seaboard and islands of Sabah. Inside this nipah palm thatched roof 30 footer boat, a family of Sea Bajau pretty much does just about everything in it. With certain activities, if you are a Sea Bajau, you might like to find the right time to do so.

During the festival, the lepa-lepa would be highly decorated, festooned with very bright and colorful paraphernalia. The favorite is red triangular three sided banners.

Hello Rabani, beautiful colours of this festival. Great moment captured and DOF showing sharp details. Opportune note.

Hi Rabani
Thanks for sharing...prior to this, I did not know there is such an anuual event.

The Canon L series lens demonstrates its superb clarity and colour reproduction. BTW I would prefer a vertical viewpoint to show the whole of the boat's structure and decorations. Small matter though.

Cheers / Steven
