Photographer’s Note
This picture was taken during my stand-by-for emergency duties at work on last sunday. It shows the Skyline of inner Speyer - facing east.
You can see (left to right):
1. The old town gate named "Altpörtel" is one of the tallest (55m) and most important town gates in Germany.
The first historical references to it date from 1176. It used to be part of the medieval fortifications of the town and was the main gate on the west side (here shown) of the town.
2. The Cathedral of Speyer
3. Church of St. Joseph (foreground)
4. The historic museum of the Palatinate (backround - green roof)
