A cold, damp night in New York City without a tripod and trying to keep an eye on 60 Florida high school band kids on their trip to the big city.
Hand held, I set the ISO to 3200, knowing I would get the max amount of noise but sometimes a grainy or noise effect come across okay (please check out my list of beliefs in my profile, especially #4). I remember the days of Kodak T-Max 1600 film and a buddy of mine who could push that stuff 2 stops as he developed it himself. The mood created can be quite pleasing. Does the similar result work here? I kind of like the result, especially since it's about as far removed from my usual sports photos as it gets. In the future I may post the color version of this shot.
Our high school band group attended the Phantom of the Opera the night after this photo was taken. At that performance they announced that the performance we attended on April 5 was performance #8,001. #8,000 had been the night before, also the night I took this photo.
The Majestic Theatre is located at 247 West 44th Street in New York.

I love the effect you have here Greg. Grain to me reminds me of the pictures I saw at my grandparents house when B&W was "the" option. It creates atmosphere that I think we get away from with the high MP that are out there today. Great mood and nice composition. My wife will love it since we went down 44th to the see a broadway play on our honeymoon. Great job!

Very good B&W, very contrasted with a lot of black, as I like! I like the image of poverty in front of the opera, a symbol of richness. Superb.

I never tried higher ISO then 400(sometimes 800 - in low light),but I will give it a try.The only problem is that my Fuji goes only to 1600.I hope that it will come out as grain/noise appropiate to your picture, because i really like it how it looks."The 35mmfilm era is back".
As you said, higher ISO fits on certain situations...and this is one of them.
I think that the color version don`t look so good, but in B&W is just great.
Have a nice week,
