"How close can I get",was my game with this heron yesterday .
Yesterday morning we had a wonderful blue sky And I decided to drive to the castle of Schwetingen where are several nice pink sandstone buildings in the park.
Close to the orangerie I saw him.I changed the lens and walked closer.About 5 meters was the minimum distance he allowed me.Comming closer,he did a step to the side.We played this game several times, but I think I`m close enough. There are some of them living in the huge park and they are used to people.
Even when I built up my tripod,he did not move.
The pink background is the pink sandstone of the orangerie and in the
workshop
you can see the whole bird.

Hi Leo, excellent picture and funny note and title.
the quality is really high, at top level, and the close up on the heron is fantastic.
thanks, ciao

Wow Andreas!!!
This is a great stuff from you. And thanks God you took care of other things in the world except the lavish green and yellow fields. Composition is your stongest point, there is no doubt about his, but excess of everything...........so this bird and this shot getsw warm welcome.
Absolute clarity, a perfect gaze, neatness and sharpness, and I am afraid if I go near, the beak will crack my nose.
Be careful dear friend.
Regards n regards for variety.
Rajeev

Hallo Andreas,
Great sharpness with your 300m/m. the f11 was maybe to much, but now the background is also nice blurred. His eye is keep on staring at me, that's very intriging.
Good shot....not easy to shoot wildlife.
Regards, Henk

Hi Leo
Very pretty bird shot which wouldn't go unoticed on TN.
The quality is superbe with excellent colours and details of the head and the way it stands out thanks to your great bokeh. The square format works so well.
Regards
Nikki

Hi Leo,
perfect close shot. gtreat definition.
Here they are real citybirds and I know one that always hangs around near the fishmarket.
Regards, Gerrit

Hello Leo,
It is not easy getting close to herons. They have excellent peripheral eyesight. A beautiful bird portrait! Sigma makes excellent glass for their lenses and I own three Sigma lenses and I am very happy with them. Excellent work!

Hallo Andreas!
"Jeden Tag eine Überraschung" scheint Dein Motto zu sein. Ein tolles, ein unglaublich scharfes und eindrucksvolles Portrait dieses Fischjägers, wie ich es noch nie sah! Auf dieses Foto kannst Du wirklich stolz sein! Apropos Schwetzingen, Spargel gekauft ...?!
Grüße aus Siegen! ES SCHÜTTET! ;-)

Leo, looking the WS photo, I saw that bird looks so much with one from Brazil. I think they belong to the same Family.
I prefer the Ws photo, givin a pretty view of the bird in a great position.
Good low DOF and soberb sharpness.

Hi Leo,
That's a very good close-up. Very sharp and with so many details. Did you take it at 300mm? Just wondering how close I can get with my 300mm as I haven't tried myself yet.
Excellent colors as well and soft background.
Well done,
Harko

Hello Andreas,
I can tell you that I had hours waiting for these birds but they seem to be much nicer in Germany !
Are you sure it was a live one :o)
Anyway, you just managed incredible shot of a bird which is normaly very difficult to approach, even at 30 metres...
Have a nice day.
Best regards, Christian

hi andreas
I was struck by the sharpness and the great quality of this close up, the brown/pink back ground highlight the contrast and the beauty of the heron.

Ciao Andreas!
Great and funny portrait! You made a good job.
Thanks for the note too ;)
See you soon...

Interesting game, Andreas. I did such stuff too. Mainly with that image that I posted as my fist panning experience. At the end the bird flew away and gave me a present for all the patience. It seems that here it also paid off. I love that background colors very much. It contrast so well that it really gives all the details of that wonderful bird. I have the impression that you didn't need to get closer. That is enough, unless you were planning to had a eye clos-up shot :-)

Hallo Leo,
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

very good wildlife shot, very sharp and well coloured picture, bokeh is good too!!

Hi Leo,
Excellent close-up. The sandstone wall allows an uncluttered BG and lets us concentrate on the sharp features of the bird.

Hi Leo
A fine close up of the heron which seems to pose for you :) Light is very nice and give us all the details of the bird's plumage. The blurred BG gives more impact to the subject.
Cheers

Hi Andreas,

Great detail .. great focus and clarity .. beautiful image ..

Herons are one of my favorite birds ... you have just completed an image that is on my life's little check list .. can you feel the envy boiling off my keys ; )

take care,

John

Not sure about the square crop Leo, I think a bit more space to the left is needed, giving room for that beak to jab into, so to speak.
Other than that, this is a superb study of this magnificent bird. You've captured the intense focus in those cold yellow eyes really well, just waiting for the moment to strike.
Good stuff!

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Andreas,

Quel portrait, quelle netteté, avec un fond dans de belles teintes.
Une bien belle image.
