This is the last in my mini series on the South Lakes Animal Park, although the peacock is not as endangered as the rest, it is a very beautiful bird & welcome at any nature park,

Hi Wilson,
You must been very close with that 18-55 and i wonder even at 6.3 the dof is so beautiful as we see here. If you would say it was taken with a 300m/m 2.8 i also believed you.
Sharpness and colours are perfect. High on detail in his feathers, great pose.
Good work...almost unbelieveble that that was taken with that simple (with all kind respect) kit lens.

Excellent close up.
The colours look magnificent, deep powerful blue.
Maybe a little bit grain and noise in the photo but I guess it is ok. You couold maybe fix it with a little post processing, but that is up to you to decide.

A peacock from a unique perspective. Most shots are of the back feathers but this shows how pretty and ornate the head shot can be. When I was little my grandfather had a peacock and he told us that it had bitten his toe off. I was scared to death of those birds for a long time! Good news is the bird didn't bite it off an unfortunate placing of a foot under a falling object did. Nice photo

Hello Wilson,as others have said this is an unusual shot of a peacock, but nevertheless even without the tail it is still recognisable as a peacock.Your sharpness is fantastic and I like the lighting.Your colours look true too.

Fantastic shot Wilson! The tight framing is an excellent idea and the detail you have captured in his feathers is magnificent. The tighly curled feathers on his head look like a candlewick bedspread ;)The reflection in his eye is also an excellent feature of the shot.

Hello Wilson,

Superb closeup with brilliant colors and definition. In the bird kingdom, it is always the male that dons these remarkable colors. I have no idea what it is that gives the male peacock its variegated vivid colors, but in the case of one bird, the cardinal, it is the berries of the holly bush that is the cuprit. (You might remember critiquing my photo, "The Birch and the Birch Tree").

I was reading your reply to Henk and that is what I'd call getting very close! Wonderful rich blue (indigo?) contrasting very well with the small amount of B&W on the head and beak. The sharpness and dof are perfect and the detail in the feathers is amazing. A superb capture, one of your best.

Most peacock photos show the tail spread out but I like how you captured the colourful head and his earnest look. You've composed it very well with the head feathers well placed in the top corner. The bokeh is superb and contrasts really well. The blue frame is the finishing touch.

Yap, that's blue beauty. You've captured this peacock in a good pose..it looks a bit curious. The DOF works very, very fine! Good sharpness, contrast too.
The presentation with the blue border is well chosen.

Although this is probably more suited to TrekNature, Wilson, I couldn't go past this without adding some comments. The composition is perfect, and technically the shot is excellent, but it is the strong blue colour against the neutral OOF background that makes this such a striking image. Cheers . . . David

The peacock is a fantastic bird of calm in my opinion. I love the colors. The fact that you captured this with the kit lens is amazing. I was able to use a longer zoom to get in close when I took this photo in Mexico Thanks for sharing!

Hello Wilson,

There are some 'wild' peacocks that live in some parkland on the Gold Coast which I occasionally visit. I know from this that they are quite a shy bird and will not allow you to get particularly close. They also move their head around often, so to capture this in 1/200 of a second is nothing short of remarkable. I think perhaps a faster speed would have provided more sharpness for you around the crest, but what you have presented us with here is remarkable, surely one of the best peacock shots on Trek Earth. The neutral background is perfect to allow the viewer to focus on this regal bird's head.
