Photographer’s Note
I had stopped to photograph the strange ice formations in this lake, which I guess is from lowering water levels and the ice dropping on to the rocky bottom.
This gull obligingly entered my frame, backlit by a low winter afternoon sun.

Interesting shot Andrew;
The composition is good with the low POV and the horizon higher up in the frame, and an interesting subject. The gull is the icing on the cake. The only downfall of this shot is a bit of excess digital noise. Something I'm sure you won't suffer from with the new camera kit (Nikon- Gheesh!)... ;-P
All the best Andrew!

Hello Andrew,
The photo is a bit grainy but other than that pretty neat, looks like an alien planet! :o) I have that happen here in fron to my house and indeed when the water freezes and then drops it makes the ice form this neat strutures around the rocks..:o) I like the light and dark and the good pov. TFS

Hi Andrew!
The whole composition is just perfect, though quite noisy. Then again, when your camera is frozen to your fingers and the light is low, the high iso setting might result in this.
I added a workshop. Saw, Donna already posted one hahaha. This will be a nice picture for workshop-lovers to work on the noise ;-).
I think Donna did noise reduction on the entire picture, where I profiled only the sky, resulting in an emphasis of the reduction in the top of the picture. Think it resulted in the ice looking more natural, but it's good fun to see the differences between workshops and the original.
Greetings! Dennis
