[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I seem to be on a Sidewalk Cafe binge :-). This latest in my small series is of a dog and his master dining at a cafe on the corner of Charlottenstr. and Mohrenstr. across from the Deutsche Dom (Gendarmenmarkt). It was a beautiful autumn day and many people were outdoors enjoying the weather (see, e.g., this photo, taken half a block away).

Europeans have a much more relaxed and enlightened (IMHO) attitude toward dogs in public places. You see them in stores and, most remarkably from an American view, in fine restaurants (indoors as well as outdoors). I think it's a fine thing, and wish that Americans weren't so uptight about such things.

Technical: Cropped and some distracting bright spots/reflections were cloned out of the background. The tablecloth was de-saturated and saturation was increased on the man's shirt, both in an effort to tone down the glare that they caused and to differentiate one from the other. A bit of contrast was applied and the whole was sharpened.

Hi Jackie, Yes a dogs life alright, this is a wonderful capture of a very nice scene, excellent timing, superb light, focus & colours & brilliantly composed, but obviously the dog has made this ordinary daily life photo, FANTASTIC what a star, kind regards Wilson,

Hello Jackie,
I am european, but I´m not sure about "relaxed attitude towards dogs in Europe". Depends on the town or region, maybe Berlin is a really "dog-friendly" town....but if you go to Vienna, for instance, you better leave your doggy at home.
You have captured a nice scene and worked it out very well, as you wrote in your note it´s not so easy to manage the bright autum sun on a white tablecloth.

... not easy to be a dog. You spend so much time in playing, sleeping, bringing out your two-feet friend for a walk and behave as if you haven't eaten anything in the last 10 year. It's a hard life!
