I think they ripped you when they sold it as a Canon mkII with 17/35L lens... if you scratch the black shoe polish (that's why your hands have been black for months, it's not dust)and the white tippex used to write the brand name (weren't you alarmed that it was spelt CANONN with two N at the end?) you'll see that there's a soap brand written on the plastic body.
Then if you shake the body, you'll hear the bang of the big stone they put inside to get the camera heavier (that was not the IS device they told you).
Finally if you look closely at the lens and take the red rubber off, that confused you with the L lens distinctive red line, you might agree that the single loupe lens is not the most appropriate optical formulae for a professionnal lens.
That said, you may also try to resell it on ebay...
