Photographer’s Note

I found it impressive the way this window and the way the light was shining through colors inside the dark quaint church. If I am not mistaken, Saint George on the stained glass window. The shot was taken inside the baroque refurbished 13th century abbey church in the old town in Orastie (Broos/Szaszvaros). I had no idea this abbey exists until the winter of 2002. Hardly anybody knows about its existance, except for the Hungarian Catholic community, another one of those places full of culture and history, but off the beaten path, so typical of Romania. Passing by I noticed a strange gate and some interesting buildings behind it. Curiosity brought me in, and I was amazed to find out that it was an abbey founded in the 13th century. On the outside as well as on the inside, it has been refurbished in the 18th and 19th centuries, but certain architectural details give away its age. Nowadays the abbey is still under the patronage of the Catholic church and it serves as a shelter and education center for orphan children.

The picture was taken with mydigital camera and edited in Photoshop (resized, sharpened, frame, saved for web)
