With all the manufacturing having moved to the China mainland, the first Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Mr. Tung Chee-wah, kept talking about turning the city into a knowledge-based society.

I am always reminded of his words when I travel on the MTR in the morning.

People can pickup the free newspapers once they pass through the ticket barriers.

I didn't use the flash on this shot, as I was trying to take several shots and didn't want to distract the commuters from their reading.

Andrew thepicture seem a little oversharpened in mi screen however the scene is very interesting. Free newspapers? I thing the government and media truly want people to educate thmeselves on day to day local and world events. Good picture and useful note.

Hi Andrew. Great candid photo. You show plenty of room and relaxed intelligent looking travellers. Good composition and depth. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

great picture, good concept with nice moment.. nice

Great stuff Andrew, excellent title for this, and well seen, so many adopting the same pose in the same space.

Hi Andrew, I hope all is well. An interesting deep view into the train car with pretty much everybody engaged in reading. It looks like the original photo should have been a little sharper and then the digital sharpening didn't help a lot, but in terms of TE relevance and learning about daily life this is stellar.

Andrew: yes, I'll buy this one. It's a great TE addition, maybe a little humorous. Details and color are spot on. regards, c

Hi,
This photo speaks volumes.

Regards.

Hi Andrew,

Nice daily life shot! Why am I always to afraid to take such shot??? Pretty funny because if I take a similar shot tomorrow here in the Netherlands you would see no difference: everybody with the same free newspaper and they obsorb the same information, everybody weirs the same corporate clothes. TFS, Gilbert

Good candid shot. I am too shy to take such shots so it's nice to see other people doing that. It's a bit blurred but understandable.

The free newpapers are also handed out on the streets. To be honest, the writings in these papers are quite bad and infoamtion isn't very reliable. But it's free and gives them something to do on the train. Otherwise, we just be staring at each other.

Interesting how almost every person on the MTR is reading, Andrew (except for the couple dozing). I'm not so sure that these publications are going to achieve Mr Tung's goals of turning HK into a knowledge based society though - unless it's knowledge of the latest affairs that the TV starlets are involved in ;)

A little motion blur but not enough to detract from the appeal of this shot.

Cheers . . . David
