Werner Herzog has a very beautiful film, called Fata Morgana, about the Sahara desert and the dream-like mirages that in the desert he captures and imagines.
More mundane and perhaps less poetic, the city of Las Vegas is also a strange type of vision that appears in the middle of the Mojave desert.
This place makes an effort to produce a dream-like effect on the visitor, who tends to get disoriented by the lights, gambling, alcohol, sex, and permanent party that it offers. Is this effort succesful? Well, I don't know for sure, I don't remember very much.... |
