Upma Bhatagi, a Brahmin lady, 80 years of age,one of the residents of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity for the elderly in Briddhashram..

no family or relatives.. she says she is in here waiting to die for the last 12 years.. happy to live there, a converted Catholic she adds. when i ask why she changed her religion she says: "i just love people who love me, this is why.."

a sweet, gentle woman, her eyes haunted me for a long time..

another portrait of her is here

wow, its too good to be true...
one of those rare models that stay in mind for years...unforgetable, timeless, beautiful...
excellent portrait, evren,
bw, j.

E: this portrait is in a league of its own. It would be superfluous to dribble words on it. So technically, did you use a vignette? What's going on with the background? I like your technique here. Just curious. Very fine frame, certainly, c

Hi Evren,

There is some portrait that destabilize, that need a second look. That’s how I feel with this well crafted image. Your subject doesn’t leave no one unaffected. I think you have created a great mood with your choice of short focale lens.

Very nice work!

André

Hi Evren. A haunting portrait indeed, those eyes are incredible and her wrinkled character face seems to tell many a story from her long life. I also like how the focusing at f/1.4 turned out in this one, very effective to strengthen the impact.

Hi Evren,
A bit different mood in this portrait. I like the lighting condition and the background is chosen well.

Sevgili Evren

Hi Evren,
this is a great and sensitive image,
i like the point of view the dof + vignetting that drives us strait to that sweet face.
i also apreciate your note to go with.
thanks for this nice work full of humanity.

Tom

Hi Evren, I wrote a comment to this before, then it said "Invalid query" after I hit "Add" and all disappeared, which I was very surprised at as I dearly love this shot. This woman is both gentle and mysterious, there's something very sweet around her big eyes, many wrinkles... a wonderful portrait and a very nice vignetting you've created... a really timeless piece... very very nice and am happy you reposted it...
take care Evren!

Selamlar Evren,
simply a stunning portrait with all the lens open to get such a short DoF focusing on her telling eyes and lines on her face.
Outstanding work!
A smile

A very beautiful sensitive portait of this old lady - as Jerzy says she has an unforgetable appearance - the unique beauty of old age - really nicely framed for maximum effect Evren......memorable for sure.

best wishes Kev

A superbly sensitive portrait, Evren! Yes, it is in a league of its own, as Caleb say. Bravo!

Superb, unflinchig portrait, Evren. You are one of the gutser photogs on TE, man, easily... You shw reality npleasant or not with great compassion...and style.
High level stuff, indeed.
Best,
-E

Very impressive...all is life on her face, for sure an emotional meeting, technicaly i like the shallow DOF made by a large aperture(less than f:2?)a classic made in the rules of Art,
vincent

One of the best portraits I have seen lately. Haunting is an understatement.

She reminds me of Indira Thakrun from Satyajit Ray's "Pather Panchali"
