[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I'd never photographed sand dunes and it was great fun looking for patterns, shapes, angles and curves. The Imperial Sand Dunes, sometimes called the Algodones Dunes, are the largest mass of sand dunes in California. This dune system extends for more than 40 miles along the eastern edge of the Imperial Valley agricultural region in a band averaging five miles in width. Rising to heights of over 300 feet above the surrounding desert floor, the dunes are a well-known landmark to local residents and the thousands of highway travelers who pass by them every year. While summer temperatures often rise above 110°F and annual rainfall averages less than two inches, the mild climate between October and May attracts tens of thousands of off highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts to the area.

The sand dunes provide outstanding opportunities for recreation. Off-highway vehicle activity is permitted on more than two-thirds of the sand dunes, or over 118,000 acres. The three most popular areas are Mammoth Wash at the north end of the dunes, Glamis/ Gecko just south of State Highway 78, and Buttercup Valley just south of Interstate Highway 8 near the Mexican Border.

Hi, Michael! A nice view of a wonderful desert landscape! Great colours and sharpness! Well done! TFS! Best regards! Miguel.

Wow, this is beautiful, Michael, and it is so dynamic and elegant. The colors, the light, the flow of the lines, and the textures of smooth and rippled surfaces - all make a wonderful shot.

The colors and the curves of the dunes often offer a good opportunity for photograph to create something very graphical, with a nice game of light and shadows. Here, you got something very nice. Well done.

It is fascinating how many patterns you have captured on the dunes Michael.
The edges created by the wind are interesting too.I like the dense shadows which add depth to your shot.
TFS, regards Jean.

Excellent done!
Lili

Excellent, sharp fine colors. Well composed with wonderful structure in sand and curves that gives great sense of perspective

This is a perfect example of perfect exposure and focus. The shadows, tones and detail retained in the ripples/patterns in the sand is just incredible. An immediate favourite Michael!

Great work

Best regards

Robin
