The Nara Hotel behind the Daijo-in Garden.

Daijo-in was a Buddhist temple. It had a strong influence with head priests from the imperial family or powerful clan in the medieval time. The temple itself was closed in 1869, by the anti-Buddhist policy of Meiji reformation government.

Nara Hotel was founded at the site of the temple in 1909. The half-Westernized Japanese style main building is existing since opening.
