Iglesia de Sayula - Small-town Mexico
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This is the church of the town of Sayula, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. It's a church typical for towns of this size in Jalisco, a medium-sized city (or "pueblo") big enough to have a few "cyber-cafes" but not big enough to feel like a true big city. This town is in southern Jalisco, not far from my parents' hometown.
Famous for its carmelized milk candy, called cajeta, this town of Sayula is also within the zone of the Cristero Rebellion of 1926-1929, in which there were more casualties than during the entire Mexican Revolution (1910-1917). This rebellion, also known as "La Cristiada," was a period of upheaval in the aftermath of the Revolution, pitting church and federal government and revolving around religious freedom and the role of government.
One other thing to note about this town. It's the birthplace of probably Mexico's greatest writer of the 20th century, Juan Rulfo. He was born here on May 16, 1917. The University of Guadalajara sponsors annually the Premio Juan Rulfo, one of the most prestigious honors for writing in Latin America and Spain. |

Hey José!
I am glad to see pictures from Jalisco! I like the pov and perspective you have chosen to focus or create this picture. Enhances a lot the natural beauty of this church. Including in the foreground this cross, works very all, too.
Well, as I´ve said to you previously, enjoy to the max your weekend ;-)
Miguel
