Photographer’s Note
A scene from the market. The Burud sit around near the 'Mandai'market in Pune selling brooms, baskets, etc. The green item in the two women's hands are called 'soup' in Marathi. It is used to seperate the chaff from the grain. Most of the middle class and upper middle class urban dwellers buy packaged food grains but even now many of the lower income groups buy it loose by the kilo, and cereals and pulses bought that way often come with many impurities including chaff and tiny stones.
The two women are probably visiting from one of the villages. The bundles on their heads are used to carry their shopping and other things they've brought with them like a meal.
They are wearing the traditional Maharashtrian sarees.

Hi Pari. Good capture of daily life in Pune. I was there last month, but was working, and only had time to pull my camera out once. I like the way in which you have cropped this so that you aren't cutting off bodies at the border - that's often difficult to do in market scenes. Exposure is good, but you probably could have made this a bit crisper in PP by increasing the contrast and saturation slightly. I have done that in a WS post, so you can see what I mean. Cheers . . . David
