Photographer’s Note
As important a landmark on the Calcutta map as the Victoria Memorial. A place where one can slowly sip a cup of tea or eat meringues with cream and watch the world go by, Flury's offers an olde world atmosphere and a glimpse of Calcutta of another era. Interesting ambience. Great rumballs.

Hi Anamitra,
Your picture has a lot of 'feel'. Classy, quiet, lonely place for a quality breakfast and a newspaper. Gilbert
ps. rumballs???

Anamitra, anamitra, anamitra..
why did you have to post this picture? You made me terribly nostalgic, especially on a cold day like today (-15C outside). I could use a nice pastry of Flurys and then walk over two blocks to Barista for a cup of Americano.

Very nice tonality and soft color and light.
[This is in Flury's at Park Street, right? My gosh...I haven't been there in over 30 years!! If so, I did not get the reference of Victoria Memorial in this photo....]

interesting photo - I know Park street, its bookshops, its big hotels, and the continuation of it, with its old cemetery but never went into this teashop - I am not sure it looks very tempting, a bit austere, but the tones are great here and I look forward to being back to your great city, and its incredible atmosphere ;-)
(hopefully, next winter...)

Anamitra,
Part of evaluating any image is to consider its "effectiveness"...how well does it communicate the message. This one has apparently captured and conveyed very well the "feel" of this renowned and nostalgic place. Well done!
Looking at it more technically, there is a slight tilt and paralax effect (the column is splayed out to the right more than the image is tilted). Composition is okay, but there is a bit too much vacant space on the left, and the shadows in that area rendered too murky.
Please see workshop for suggestions.
Regards
Chris

hi anamitra!
i just love this photograph. it brings back a lot of memories. Flurys is indeed in the Calcutta pshyche and a breakfast there is a must!
i like the whole mood of the picture. the slanting highlighted wood indicating the time, the oblivion of the person talking on the phone so detached from the hustle bustle thats just outside the door.
take care
ciao

Anamitra: even simple shots like these can convey a great atmosphere of a place. Fine lighting here, c
