Photographer’s Note
These colourful fishing boats await the spring breakup on the slipway in the Town of Bay Bulls, Newfoundland.
If whales, icebergs, and seabirds is what you would like to experience, then The Town of Bay Bulls should be at the top of your list of destinations. With the hardships that fishing industry has brought to these people, they have turned to their surroundings to seek an existence.
A short boat ride from this dock will give you the opportunity to see Twenty-two species of whales swimming among icebergs in search of food. The nearby islands (Witless Bay Ecological Reserve) contain, some of the largest nesting grounds for sea birds in the world. The 4 islands are home to 520,000 Atlantic Puffins and over a million Leach's Storm Petrel, to mention a few.
I adjusted : brightness, saturation and cropped.

Hello Rodney! What a happy catch here. Despite the cold the colors transmit some warmth into the cool air, and I can only imagine that the first signs of spring are more than welcome. Good color management, I love the little Canadian flag, moving in the wind.
I landed twice in Newfoundland on my way to Nova Scotia and back to Europe again. It was one of the most impressive landings, and the British Airways Captain seemed as excited as me, pointing out the ice blocks moving in the ocean. We landed on the way back after midnight, I could only see the windsock deep down with a little lamp on it and some lights from town but not many. Living in a rather crowded area, this was truly a special treat.
I enjoyed reading your little note ... hope to see and read more of this. All the best from Switzerland, more spring than winter, Barbara.

Hi Rodney,
I couldn't live out there, it must be an age thing. It's cold enough here but at least we don't have too much snow and ice! You can't beat boats for bright colours and these are colourful and some with very artistic bows too. I like your pov and there are some great contrasting colours in your shot. A fine, sharp capture and well seen.

Stephen

Hi Rodney,
very well captured interesting shot, from a good and effective low pov. The diagonal perspective works perfectly here, and let us admire the front part of the colourful boats. I like that you included the flag, balancing with it the picture.
Good work! Tfs and best regards.
