Photographer’s Note

Buda Castle, Budapest gate with eagle sculpture. Eagle is actually a Turul. It is the mythological bird of the origin myth of the Magyars (Hungarian people). The Turul is probably a large falcon, the origin of the word is Turkish (togrul or turgul means peregrine falcon).

The Buda Castle (Hungarian: Budai Vár) is the historical castle of the Hungarian kings in Budapest, Hungary. In the past it was also called Royal Palace and Royal Castle.

The Buda Castle was built on the southern tip of Castle Hill, next to the old Castle District, which is famous about its medieval, Baroque and 19th century houses and public buildings. The Buda Castle is part of the Budapest World Heritage Site, declared in 1987.
