Pia do Urso is a small village located 10 kms from Fátima and 17 from Batalha.
This village like many others was condemned to become another phantom city due to some periphery location.

Actually 7 persons live in the village.

Three years ago the municipality of Batalha decided together with other investors to invert this situation and now the town is under a project of renovation that you can witness in the image.

It was decided not only to renovate the buildings but also to install the first sensorial ecopark in Portugal prepared for blind people. The circuit around the village has several areas enriched with graphical representations, real size animals, games and activities especially dedicated for kids.
There is also a bar, a sightseeing area, information center, parking and other facilities.

The inhabited houses will be used for rural tourism in a near future.

As we can see in the photograph, the road pavement is made from a combination of native rocks and sliced trunks (roll trees) in the center as a replacement for of usual asphalt.

A nice place to spend an afternoon and near by well-known tourist sights.

And about the name Pia do Urso…(Bear sink) well go there and you will find why.

More than the quality of the picture I decide to post it to divulge the place that deserves some worth spreading as an example to follow on, cause TE is all about showing the world through photography.

PS: In the workshop, a version of the same image in B&W can be found I was not sure what version to place as the main posting so in the doubt and because I am beginner in B&W conversion I decided to go for the color. Tell me what your opinion is.
